Dr. Mark J. Holterman serves as a professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. In addition to teaching classes in the fields of pediatrics and surgery, Dr. Mark J. Holterman maintains a professional interest in therapies derived from stem cells. He is accordingly a member of the Alliance for the Advancement of Cellular Therapies (AACT).

AACT is an up-and-coming alliance devoted to creating new cellular therapies. It focuses heavily on adult stem cells and their many applications in cellular therapy. To this end, AACT works with leaders in science, health care, and politics to promote understanding of and support for stem-cell-based therapies.

In 2015, AACT joined forces with Patients for Stem Cells, a grassroots patients’ rights group. Both organizations share the common goal of using evidence-based medicine to allow patients to access their own stem cells. The nonprofits are now working together to promote cell therapy and help patients overcome the many barriers to treatment.
